These Walls Poem by Brooke Ashlyn

These Walls

You asked me why I shut people out
You wonder why I never let anyone see the real me
Why I swallow my shout
You don’t understand this is the way its supposed to be
I am better off alone
Hide the things people don’t need to see
Its what I’ve always know
Don’t let people in
Don’t let anyone see you cry
Always wear a grin
Smile when you want to die
Never give answers to any questions
Listen to people suggestions
Don’t let anyone hurt you
Keep people at a distance
Act like the happiness is true
Keep up the resistance
Ignore the haters
Ignore the traitors
Remember the things you try to forget
Forget the things that haven’t happened yet
Never let anyone close enough to be a threat
Keep up these walls
They will protect you from all the pain
Keep up these walls
They’ll keep you sane
