They Are The Ones Who Call Us To Stay Awake Poem by Mary Mc Creath

They Are The Ones Who Call Us To Stay Awake

We are the farmers students labourers
Who died in both world wars.

We are the soldiers from many countries,
who fought in obscure wars for no real reasons.

We are the disappeared of the Revolutions In
Africa Europe and Asia who fought for freedom.

We are the departed Egyptian Libyan Syrians
Who gave all in the rise of the Arab Spring.

We are the fruit sellar and monks who immolated
Themselves in dispair about poverty and for freedom.

We are the workers who fight for a just wage
and are gunned down by the system.

They are the ones who call us to stay awake
And pray that we do not fall asleep again.

They are calling you and me to take a stand. Now!
To be counted among those who will not sleep!
