They Pretend Poem by Randy McClave

They Pretend

Some boys pretend they are men
And some girls pretend they are women,
Some people pretend they are something they are not
Just give that a quick look, and then thought.
Some people pretend that they are brave and fearless
And some people pretend they are bold and tearless,
And some will pretend that with honor and pride
But, only when they have a weapon at their side.
Some people pretend that they are not greedy
Some people pretend that they are not seedy,
And those same people pretend they care and help
But, all they care about is themself.
Some people pretend that they are faithful
And some people pretend that they are grateful,
When unto them that question someone does ask
But, they are always wearing a pretend mask.
Some people pretend that they are a patriot
Some people pretend that they are not an atheist,
And these are the people pretending to care
While they worship a man, and never believe in prayer.
Some people pretend they are not racists
Some people pretend to have caring faces,
And these same people show their true colors
All that they care about is their own race and no others.
Some people pretend that they are a Christian
Some people pretend that they care and listen.
And some people act like they are your friend
But, some people just like to always pretend.
