They Said We Would Never Fly Poem by Justin Tanabe

They Said We Would Never Fly

They said human beings would never fly
Never conquer the sky
Yet the Wright Brothers
gave the world wings
In 1903 at Kitty Hawk.
They said a man would never
walk on the moon.
Yet Neil Armstrong
Made one small step for man
One giant leap for mankind
In 1969
They said the Berlin Wall
would always imprison.
Its citizens.
Yet the jail fell
on November 9 1989.
They said a black man
Would never be President
Yet Obama proved them wrong.
They say the flower of world peace
will never bloom.
They are wrong again.
Because there are still many people
who will never stop dreaming
