Think Tomorrow Poem by Omolola Oladotun David

Think Tomorrow

The day is new
With lots to spit out
With all characters borrowed
Surprise suppressing the silent lamb
An atmosphere of bliss
All surprisingly surprising
The lion is fearful
All to meet the suitor

Here he comes
With banquets of flowers
Red, yellow, green and blue
Roses and the never seen
All he brings
Just to say
I want you
I love you, please be mine

Oh dear!
The peacock falls
She's trapped
Trapped without turning back
Happy, she calls it
Flattering, she says
Luck and fate she admits
What a mistake

Listen I say
Not to the sound of words
But the words and its sounds
Today you call good
But tomorrow I say evil
When you'll be left alone
To loop and leap all alone
With his eyes out there

Ready for another
Whom he would call his rose.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Got the inspiration to write this in February 2003 as a warning to some of my teenage girl friends ahead of the St. Valentines (love day) celebration which had been reported to be the period in which most of them (young teenage girls) loose their virginity for the sake of love and gifts.
