This I Was Told Poem by Randy McClave

This I Was Told

This I was once told
And in my mind it just stayed,
Now as I look back and think as I am old
For many I have wished for and prayed.
My grandfather once said unto me
If only I would look around,
And if my eyes and soul I would look and see
Then the truth most certainly would be found.
That terrible job that you once had
Which you now shunned away and did avoid,
Which made you feel depressed and tired and sad
It is the dream job, for the unemployed.
Your small house that you own and live in
Which has many problems to others you do confess,
Problems it does have outside and within
But, it is the dream house of the homeless.
Your beautiful smile that you constantly wear
Though many times you don't feel blessed,
Unto friends and family worries you share
But, that smile is the dream of those who are depressed.
You are happy because of your health
You need no assistance or medicine or a pill,
And your condition is free without wealth
You are the dream of those who are ill.
Your parents gave you food to eat
But, the look and aroma wasn't to your appeal,
You instead just wanted a sweet
But, to the hungry the food you refused was a king's meal.
Now as you go through difficult situations
Full of worries and strifes and sadness and stressing,
When you now think of your frustrations
Don't forget, but remember your every blessing.
