Those Dreams Poem by Lance Carthen

Those Dreams

Im tossing and turning
But I cannot sleep
Ive got a devil in my head
Have to listen when he speaks
He tell's me that we all have a number
That the times counting down
To our darkest day
When he begin's to wear the crown
To reign once again as the king of the drowned
I wake up my skin is crawling
But I've awoken to a dream
People screaming all around me
Pray this reality is not as it seems
I hear the damned calling
Screaming for release
There is nobody there to help
The strong have fallen to their knee's
In a corner sits an angel
Sobbing with dirty wings
Holding a piece of broken mirror
Motioning for me to see
It hands me the looking glass
I begin to scream in horror, this reflection couldnt be
But staring back I realize
That the devil.....is me
