Those Four Small Words Poem by Effie Yalena Steyn

Those Four Small Words

Pouring thoughts unto paper
is quite unlike your style
Except you inadvertently lose
control once in a while
And those four words tumble from
your lips, your hands, your eyes
I'd be lying if I said they didn't
take me by surprise
Maybe I'm the only one you
ever admitted that to
So I'll be the only one to say
those four words back to you
In endearing fashion we repeat
the same elaborately thread
Conversation that I cling to
Afraid to lie instead
I miss you when I'm waiting
I miss you when you're gone
I miss you when another speaks
Those four small words you own.
