Those I Have Met Poem by Robert Dummett

Those I Have Met

I have met in journey some
whose left cassettes
I sometimes video
on the television of my thoughts.

There have been gay times, there have been sad -
but the richest times of all
have been those with animistic ties.

Life to me has many faces.
Those with drama sure replaces
all the sleeping on the floor
till your very back is sore.
Or sleeping on a bench beneath the sky
without a morsel to come by.

I have known those times of begging:
I have known those times of want;
I have known the real heart-rending times
when your face from need is gaunt.
But these were passed in youth's demanding search
for love, And as a man descending
I wonder if there is an ending.
