Thy Debt, Ye Shall Pay! Poem by Cathy Phew

Thy Debt, Ye Shall Pay!

You knew me from thy youthful self
you fed me and the debt i paid
our kins have been best of friends
yet upon that day when put to test
you were the first to throw a sword to my chest.

Forgive my asinine for i thought our camaraderie
would shield us from the price of tribe
protect us and stand the test of time
perhaps clemency was much to ask
but upon this place it would be twice blest.

A pound of flesh; my head, my hand, my heart
the penalty and forfeit of my bond, my tribe
i beseech you, to mitigate the justice of thy plea
for malice bears down truth indeed.

Can the vindicate thyself for taking my life
and for each jot of blood what shall ye pay?
you deeds are upon your head, the law i crave
What then do you plead, guilty or innocent?

My beautiful house, torned down by thy wrath
my child traumatized, abandoned in the world
my dreams shattered like glass, everything amassed
speak if you nust for i am lost of words

As my spirit lingereth back and fro
i sigh at the cost, the result of your sword
my place of rest i shall not rest
'Till 'dis debt you pay, torment in my name

In your conscience i will abide
'till the grave, peace you shant get
In your dreams my face you shall see
every scream and smell of blood shall be as fresh! !
