Time Traveler Poem by James Walter Orr

Time Traveler

I traveled back in time today,
And as I passed along the way,
I read full many wondrous poems
That had so many things to say,
And yet I came up short.

I went back 'til my time was used,
My heart was sad, my spirit bruised,
And tried with all my heart to name
Those all along the path I cruised,
Ere time made me my trip abort.

The names I named impressed me greatly,
Only those who posted lately,
Did I find to name their names
And put them in my list so stately
In chronological type sort.

It must be thus, my brain trust thinks,
I failed to name the name of Lynx,
And many more of early venue.
Now I'm silent as the Sphinx,
My spirit shamed, with this retort:

Please let me try to mend my failing,
With no ranting, raving, railing;
Just my statement that I wish to
Include those with names still trailing
Those first named in my report.
