Timmy Connors Poem by Francis Duggan

Timmy Connors

His brother Paddy a well known inventor in the Cork Mart gates his genius is seen
And Timmy in his own right a wise man and clever farms the family farm at Dooneen
He used to play cards in the Holiday house at the West End with Jimmy Cronin, Clem Kelleher and Paddy Dinneen
The memories of the past still with me and like the home fields evergreen.

So much to like about in Timmy Connors a man who likes a good debate
His point of view to him important yet he can argue without getting irate
An interesting and an engaging fellow and always so laid back and cool
From people like him I have learnt far more than I've learnt in school.

When I lived in Millstreet in Duhallow and that's more than a few years ago
At Jimmy Cronin's Holiday house at the West End some characters I got to know
And one of those was Timmy Connors and his type out of sight not forgot
The man was a fountain of knowledge and from him I learnt quite a lot.

The Holiday house has since changed hands and though few things in life stay the same
The old flame of memory keeps burning it is an unquenchable flame
And though I now live far south of Duhallow many thousands of sea miles away
The good characters like Timmy Connors are still with me in spirit today
