'Tis Out Of Fashion Now Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis Out Of Fashion Now

'Tis out of fashion now old fashioned rhyme
Like everything suppose it had it's time
And changes in the World every day
That's how it is and 'tis always been this way.

Does this make Byron the great major poet
One who retains the tag as one of literary note
Long out of date in this the twenty first century
With such an assumption I could not agree.

The Uni literary dons have removed the music from poetry
At least that's how it does appear to me
They tell us rhyme in poetry nowadays does not belong
In my thinking I must have got it wrong.

In times of change such is life one suppose
To me modern verse is another form of prose
That I think in this way is beyond me to explain
Or have I been born with a recycled brain?

Like most other things in literature change is occuring fast
And rhyme it does seem belongs to the past
Perhaps for that one can thank those of literary degrees
The poetry experts of the universities.
