'Tis Said That Migrant Nostalgia Poem by Francis Duggan

'Tis Said That Migrant Nostalgia

'Tis said that migrant nostalgia lasts for a few years
That time is the great soother of nostalgic tears
But Nana the aged Grecian who now rests in peace
Till the day that she died felt nostalgic for Greece
She talked about Greece till the day that she died
And her heritage to her a sense of great pride,
Fond memories of Athens she did retain
And her accent with her till her end did remain
Time is the great healer you do hear some say
But nostalgia lives on in the ageing and gray
Old friends in the Hometown old migrants recall
And the old days to them were the best days of all
And Nana till she died felt nostalgic for Greece
Though far from her Homeshore she now rests in peace.
