To A Neighbour Poem by Ajit Das

To A Neighbour

Welcome, then, my dear neighbour,
though I'm not sure what you are:
a natural ally, a strategic partner,
an iron brother, or even a provocateur.

But to dispel haze around your motive,
the wise man coins the comparative:
the fence raising next-door native
is much better than a distant relative.
