To Alexandre Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

To Alexandre

To Alexandre

Let me start with a fact
-I wish I never had to write this!
Let me tell you of my training:
-you are a man if not stoned while in power
-you are a man if in devastation and not cruel!
With me free and you behind the bars…
I feel bad to write this…
Feel in power…
So forgive me please.

I must
I must
I must

-did you ever think of an indigenous before taking the gun?
-did you ever saw what your pioneers did to them?
-did you ever ask yourself why half of Africa speaks French?
-did you ever review the Algerian war for freedom?
-did you ever think of the Acadians?
-did you ever extend a hand to help?
-did you ever take the fact of their blood being yours too?
-did you ignore it because they are not Quebecois?
-did you ever think of the innocent Afghanis?
-did you ever think of them waking up to American blanket bombing?
-did you ever think of the innocent Iraqis?
-did you ever think of them raped first and burned next?
-did you ever…?
-did you ever…?
-did you ever…?
In either case
Yes or no…
My dear…I keep thinking of you with love and care…
You are an innocent child of your time and place…
You saw the surface as shown to you…
Never the depth as it is…
We are told that you said:
-in the long run
-this non-white, non-European immigration
-may perhaps lead to the marginalisation of whites
Your fear of marginalisation made you massacre the prayers:
-did you ever know that this fear is from what your pioneers did to others…?
