To Be Faithful With What We See Poem by RIC BASTASA

To Be Faithful With What We See

perhaps let us
just be faithful
with what we see.

it is a green sparrow
perched upon a brown twig
on a tree
without leaves
on a sunny day
beside a river
where a white dog with black
spots
is watching.

do not say that the dog
is longing for the sparrow
and wants to catch it with its paws
or
that the sparrow regrets its green feathers
and since then
had lost its appetite for
flight
or
that the tree is so depressed
losing all its leaves
to the greed of the
river
punished to flow
till eternity.
