To Be Turned Down - Poem by Christopher Taber

To be turned down
Is understood
To be turned down and told
“You are the perfect guy for me”
Is a broken rib that’s pains my days
With each breath I take
A sharp reminder of things that won’t be
How kind, pain for my suffering
Why thank you, how complete
My sorrow yet again
Another reason not to date
Or to even try
For we never even made it to that state
You stated the facts
“You are the perfect guy for me
Not my boyfriend,
And I feel something for you.”
Set it, hook line and sinker
Let me sink deeper down to the bottom
Is that where you want me?
Shall I bend over too?
