To Be Unique Poem by Ray Tatenda Mutizwa

from vain company I separated myself

from the rest I opted to be unique

working and looking to be this was my goal

mediocrity was to be done away with

to be the best was a must



all they enjoyed and cherished

rejecting and loathing it was my position

what they did most of the time

I opposed and did everything differently



to prosper and excel

a commitment had to be made

eyes had to opened by having an introspection

imperative was the need for a change

a drastic transition was not optional



by myself this I had to manifest

this could not be done by a proxy

to be such a person all was in me

faith I kept while working the works

standing fulfilled now am an achiever
