To Keep Me Alive I Make Love With You.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

To Keep Me Alive I Make Love With You....

it is true
to keep myself away from all these fears
i make love with you

i like it longer than the night
but the morning light insists that it will be over

i see death peeping by the door of this old house
recalling names who love it, who waited and who regretted why
i had been that long enough
when all their friends had already gone
to the door beyond this door
to the paradise of forgetting.

i keep loving you and i keep making this love
a love for you.
death creeps in like a worm on the leaf that it slowly eats.
i look at this and i accept this truth.

the other side of truth however are the other leaves
and buds and flowers
and the bees that sing a sweet song around it.

this is the giver and the taker fusing as one ecstasy
and the sun always looks at them with a bright and warm smile.

everyone to a role to make this world
live, everyone moves to keep this world spin and revolve
to continue making its own stories
that will shut themselves like the pale lips of the
dead and the forgotten.
