To Know One Self - Poem by Mathapelo Mohlala
Self must be a mystery word
Created by witches and demons evil and conniving enough to not let poor souls have rest.
Sitting there creating plague containing words such as 'self-worth, self-knowledge, self-respect, self-love'
Torment us with such ridiculous words.
Souls trying to identify with this self and her relations with other words.
Oh she must cruel because she has energy and love for nobody else but her-self.
I'd love to imagine this self as a woman because if she was man shed have a little compassion.
Now we chase her night and day and not a minute she'll give in.
She wants worth, knowledge, love, respect, acknowledgement.
She wants the breath in my nostrils
The calcium reserved for my bones.
She wants my wisdom and and never ever my pain.
She wants to live rent free and roam my mind freely.
She wants to live here inside me and chain me to her ideologies about the world, politcs, vengence and men.
The distrust and disgust she has for my fears, emotions and noble acts.
She wants my body to feel ounces of pleasures and never waves of any consequences.
She screams at me to stay behind and never explore outside her boundaries of knowledge.
What does she know?
What can she teach one about survival and reflection when shes such a coward living rent free in my mind?
Playing with my nerves whenever it suits her and possessing the arteries of my heart.
Gently enclosing them so I could not breath at times because she wants me to remain under her guard and gaze.
She never accepts that I am energy.
Deep vibrations and pieces of sunshine, stars, Mars and a bit of Mercury.
Sadly doesnt want to admit that my tears bless the seeds of the ground even when its paved with concrete
For if I could cry enough I'll awoken and cleanse gods
She takes me for granted.
She takes my will for granted even when it has travelled to places she never thought existed.
Oh how she forgets that I am fierce piercing energy
And that sorrows plants its seeds on me ans they grow to glow beautiful.
Self can leave
She has no place here within me.
I am only energy.
