Enfold me in your branches
Drop your leaves into my soul -
Feed me with your sap, full rising,
Breathe for me and make me whole.
Then carry me in splendour
Cast upon the gentle breeze -
Up to heaven's regions flying
Biding there ‘mongst ancient trees.
My arms could never span you
Nor your highest bough embrace -
I am small and you are mighty
As I look upon your face.
The earth will not forsake you
As she holds you firm and fast -
I pray that you will hold me too
There upon your branches vast.
Your breath is mine forever
And I give you mine to keep -
Together we can rule the world
When the world embraces sleep.
