To Us Poem by Eduardo Gonzales

To Us

To the end of days, when the Animosity of men is unleashed, when bullets hail and bombs fall, to the countless jets seen launching across steel decks, afterburners marring the sky like stars, to the endless movement of Soldiers, running, pulling, screaming, prying, and fighting.

To the thousands of questions that run across A soldiers mind, to the unanswered questions we have asked, to the countless stupid questions mumbled across our lips, to the chaos that is the battlefield of war, where we run, duck and jump to the tempo of our Superiors orders.

To the sweat and blood and tears given towards humanity, and our own hubris and faults, to the lost time for family and friends, given for the price of freedom; to the woes of those we left behind.

To the true heroes of any war, not the ones who came back scarred and frayed but those who litter the ground, brave and bold; to those who died on foreign lands, who’s memories and goals live through his brothers-in-arms and loved ones, to the men and women who have given everything for this country.

To veterans, the ones who suffer from torments and memories, the scars that cannot be seen, for the loss of our innocence, to the pain and honor, to those we called Brother and Sister, to all who served.
