Today Poem by Chris Ernest Nelson

Today

Today the gray hangs heavy on my head.
The sun sinks low beneath clouds of longing.
I have been in love, more than once, but now
in the autumn of my life each love,
though once gloriously unique,
has become a sweet amalgam.
No longer one voice
to which I turn my ear,
but now a harmony of memories.
All loves becoming one.

Today my thoughts of you are lost letters.
Of the millions of special moments we shared
only a few know how to find their way home.
When your ghost comes to my door,
I look at you for a long time
and I try to touch your soul.
I cannot reach you.
You laugh at my gray,
then you dissolve into a cloud
and the sun sinks low.
