Together.
You and I.
Born but days apart.
Explored our world
The farm in the bush.

We were inseparable.
Nothing escapes our glance.

Together we ran free.
I was a tree
You the leaves.
You the petals
I the stalk.

We grew together
Melded into one.
Your strength
My weakness.
Your weakness
My strength.

Now we are three years
Separated.
You have been sent
Away to school.
I am left alone.

I am with your father
Who takes me with him.
His shadow.
His surrogate son.

But cold bloodedly
Training me
To run the slaves.
Of whom
I am one.
