Together Forever, Never To Part Poem by Selina Gurgacz

Together Forever, Never To Part

How did this happen,
Why’d you choose me?
I thought we were only the best of friends,
I guess I was wrong,
Because you came and said to me,
‘I like you more than just a friend,
And I have for a while.
I was always so confused,
As I thought I still loved my ex.
But now that is not the case,
I picture my future, and only see you.
I can’t picture anyone else,
Walking up the aisle towards me,
With a big smile on your face,
Which shines like the sun,
Your cheeks pink like the prettiest flower.
Though I can’t compare you to a rose,
As it is pretty, but you are beautiful,
No one compares.
I hoped you feel the same way,
But if you don’t that’s fine,
We’ll still be together forever,
Best friends, never to part.’

I stood there completely shocked,
That you would have confessed,
What I had sometimes hoped.
That you loved me.

It took me a moment to reply,
But when I did I said,
‘I never wanted to admit to you,
That I liked you more than just a friend.
You said before, that you didn’t want anyone,
So I thought that I’d leave you alone.
Even I was confused about my feelings,
I reasoned with myself,
That you were more like an older brother to me,
And that was how I should leave it.
But when I picture my future,
I see what you see.
I can’t picture anyone else but you,
And with no success I tried.
So yes I feel the same way,
Hence best friends we will not be.
We will still be, together forever,
And never shall we part.’

The look on his face was astounding,
His eyes shining as bright as the stars,
Smiling like a Cheshire cat.
Taking me by the arm,
He led me to a wonderful place,
Where we were alone.

This is only just the beginning,
Of something old turned new.
We were best friends,
Always and forever.
But now we are partners, a couple or lovers,
No matter what it is called,
We’ll stick by each other,
Through thick and through thin,
We will love each other, forever more,
Together forever,
Never to part.
