Togetherness Poem by Edwina Reizer

Togetherness

Rating: 0.5

Togetherness is what makes life work.
Divisiveness is what makes us shirk
From the responsibilities we’ve been given
To protect the innocent while we’re livin’.

The cultural differences that encompass our being
Should never stop all of us from seeing
That we may not all look the same
But, as humans we must all play the same game.

We must not let others tear us apart.
We must figure out a way that we can outsmart
The dividers, who would love us to be
Fighting each other throughout eternity.

This ultimately is not very easy to do.
We must understand each other’s point of view.
We are all human beings that need each other.
We will fail as a race if we just try and smother

All of the good and let the bad breed
Hatred and violence. Where will that lead?
Violence begets violence. Love begets love.
So we must always remember what we’re made of.

We’re made of emotions like compassion and love.
It’s how we came into this world from above.
Hate and revenge comes from things we are taught.
And that brings on fear and look what that’s wrought.

If we want to have peace we must change how we think.
We must offer each other a cup of kindness to drink.
It can’t happen overnight. It will take time.
But, anything worthwhile is an uphill climb.
