Total Darkness Poem by Christon SykesSmith

Total Darkness

I can’t believe this power outage lasted this long
I hate being stuck in this elevator
I’m just going to sitting in darkness letting it consume everything
waiting for a blast from the lights
but even in this sightless pit I can be free
even in this absolute shadow I can take flight to the 5th floor
I will make this darkness my own
I will hold it to my very being
but then I come into the bewildering light
it is so strange and eminent
I want to go back into my darkness
in this light I can't navigate my flight I can not move at all
I feel this strange warmth agents my skin
burning me like sun to a vampire
I reside to my darkness
never returning to the light
but I'm still alone...
or so I deemed
there are like 5 around me
that despise the light that seemed to be so relaxed,
why didn’t I see them before
but it is truly the darkness that is free to me.
So lights just stay off we don’t need you anymore.
