Tragedy Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Tragedy

Tragedy is a cruel teacher
Solemnly spoke the preacher
As survivors mourned the dead
Pain and screams echoing in their heads

Awoken from their beds
Earth moving from its' core
Rattling firm structures down
Like playing cards strewn upon the floor

Hearts crying, babies crying
Fathers, Mothers beating their chests
Crying 'No more! '
What for?

Night terror, dust settles into day
Everything once cherished, gone away
Nothing to console
Crushed to the very soul

How can one go on?
There is no answer
But one must try
Heart full of longing and cry

Because the others would want you to
And that is the only reason
That one can find from above
The only reason is because of your love

That will never forget
Now that they are lost
What they really mean
Knowing now the cost

But you shall meet again
Your heart broken but now made pure
Meeting loved ones in a kinder place
Someday will be your cure

God givith
God taketh away
For you we now pray
May you mend and find your way

There is little one can really say
Upon such a tragic day
