Trapped Poem by Arielle D'amore

Trapped

Trapped in a secret room with no doors
Nothing but a single open window that I dare not go through
I see you on the other side and know that is where I belong
But I know my every move is being recorded by the watchful eyes of all
Stuck in this dark room
Stuck in existence without the freedom to live
Stuck in the darkest corners of my mind
Where you are just out of reach
Where that horrible ugly beast watches me out of the corner of his eyes
Some call him regret or loathing or even love
Either way his glare burns my heart, too painful to bare, as it sets on fire
The ever burning flames I'm cursed with
The flames that I set upon myself when I promised you forever
And although you promised me too, your words were empty and cold
So you have your freedom
Outside of this empty space
Outside where they can't watch you as you lay dying, burning from the inside out
I often wonder when I will realize that evil creature lurking in the shadows, burning my soul is you
You who taught me love
You who held me as I slept
You who ripped me apart as I fell to your feet
You who taught me not to fall for someone because they could just as easily tear your heart out of your chest as you lay expecting death which much certainly come after such pain.
A silent pain
One unacknowledged by others
But known by many
One that feels as though it should take the very breathe out of your lungs
But it is spiteful enough to keep you alive
A hungry monster that feeds on your wounded heart
One that would cease to exist if you just simply took your life
Which of course is the only way out of this room
Because in the end, it is only in my mind
