Trinidad And Tobago Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Trinidad And Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago

In going door to door
-knock-knock-knock
-I see shapes,
-face colours
-and repeat many names

I use these; travel
-voyages, fruitful.

Over seas and skies
-via sands, heat and sun
-over rocks, Andes, Alps
-and Zagros…

What is Noah's Flood?
-nothing but drizzle; some drops
-when compared to tears of my heart? !

"Jamaican? "
-I question
-her jaw falls

I answer her questions
-on how and why I guessed

We speak for a while
-on how the Jamaicans
-chose life in wild mountains
-resisting brutality of masters

"That is how you got independence."
-see Sun, Moon entangle in her eyes
-feels happy to relate with her kinds.

Story is not same
-if talk of Trinidad

Prior risked and fought a huge Empire
-latter talked with the poor, weak UK.

Both actions are rooted in cultures
-in short, the Indians, are peaceful
-this is why, often were tools, abused

I and they, in a way
-share very old thin root
-our tongues are siblings; Sanskrit's
-as are too similar, The Vedas, Avesta,

Dividing and ruling
-have always, been and are
-the tools, base and ladder
-for greed of power
-see tricks, McCarthy's and Trump's!

You and me, and our likes
-are fooled to accept while
-they beat the war's drum
-we go and dance Aten
-fight for them
-lose or shed the blood

Let's stop being fooled!
-enough is being the Stupid!

Hardly a Tobagonian
-speaks but English
-while names are
-almost all, Indian!

Do they know?
-have they seen?
-or been taught?
-of how, why?
-and whom by?
-they became Trinidadian?
-to become what they are…?

By talking with them I
-see nothing but poor birds
-children of cages…
-cage, cage, cage…
-hatched and raised in the cage
-of themselves "Unaware! "
