Troops - Poem by Shauna Stoltz

People forget all about
the troops that go and fight
for our freedom to do
what we do everyday

the troops that if
it weren't for their bravery
we wouldn't have had
all the things we do now

so even though
this war isn't over here
we forget all about them
the troops need us now

they put themselves
on the line for us
everyday is a challenge
to see who can survive

many of them die
defending our rights
but we forget about it
and we shouldn't

we tend to neglect
all that they do for us
all that they put on the line
the troops of the US

so stand with me
as they raise the flag
for everyone who died
since September 11

don't forget
all the troops around us
they need us to help
with this war in Iraq

I'm not asking you to join
just say a blessing or two
even if you don't believe
please do it for them

the troops pray for us
instead of themselves
so why can't we do the same
instead of being so selfish

they put their country
above everything else
so why can't just this once
we put them above us

stop thinking about
what we should do
and get up and actually
do something about it

get up like they did for us
and show the troops
that they'll never be forgotten
and that they are American heroes

let the troops know
how you really feel
and think about
what all they do for us

they don't get any
praises or thanks
except from their families
and friends sometimes to

so tell a troop
next time you see one
that you are great full
for all they do to serve us
