True Self Poem by Sara Jo Andrews

True Self

Someday I’ll show the world my true self
One day you’ll see the other side of me
My dark, but fun side. I ain’t no freak, maybe
Just a little weird. Take the time to get to know me.
I promise you, you’ll like it, if not full refund guaranteed.
If you don’t like me, you just have to say the words
And I’ll slip back into the darkness from which I come.
You’ll never know what you missed.
It could have been the best damned time of your life.
But you’ll be the fool to walk away, not I.
Maybe today will be the day the world will see my true self.
Let me take a shower
And wash away this mask of someone else
And change my clothes to show you the real me.
I’ll put my game face on.
And give you a ride of your life
You see me, now you don’t, catch me if you can.
This I promise you will be the best damn catch of your life.
Maybe someday I’ll shout it out for the world to know “ Hey, Look at me, I’m myself, come and play with me.”
