Tundra Poem by Michelle Claus

Tundra

across this solitary landscape
of cold uncertainty

we are a wild wind
gathering force,
enough to drive glaciers through raging waves
into uncharted realms of the frigid sea

we are eager earth
burgeoning with root and sprout
beneath the permafrost

we are fire
when our sun is lost
within the brumal storm
and hoary time
that mantle this bleak terrain

and we are ancient water
frozen in the dark of polar night,
intent on preserving our primal form
