Turning Back To The Vomit Poem by Alexander Raju

Turning Back To The Vomit

Turning Back to the Vomit

They say: Be proud of our culture,
Our tradition and practices!
But should I go to the Stone Age
To become an Indian patriot?

Should I lay my kids on cow-dung,
Or force them to drink cow's urine?
Should I smear my face with ashes
And mark my body with colours?

Should I pierce my cheeks and tongue
With spears, make wounds on my body?
Should I do human sacrifice
And throw widows into the pyres?

How difficult it was for me,
To ignore those disgusting ways,
And achieve this great civilized
Manners of healthy human life!

And now those psychiatrically
Sick and illiterate fake hermits
Display their nakedness and try
To take us to primitiveness.

The more we strive to shed away
Those barbarous ways of life,
The more they drive us back to hell,
To those grotesque days of the past!
