Twins In Fluid Time Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Twins In Fluid Time

Time is more fluid
we think too linearly
photons move forward
backwards in time
your body made up of photons
tiny bits of light
illuminating the spiral path

Your memories powerfully drawn
remembering things as you imagine
they really happened
knowing you have the truth
yet wondering when you meet
an old friend
who tells a very different story

Even identical twins
experiencing the exact same event
sands of time
shading
irritating the oyster
produces a unique pearl
will not remember the details
in the same way.
those twins linked at birth
separated by memories
inimitably created

Sometimes the path
they remember
vastly different from the other

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My partner has two sets of twins so I think about them a lot. This poem is from a collection called Remembering the Future where I play with time and memory.
