Two Little Butterflies Poem by Ananta Madhavan

Two Little Butterflies

Crazy little flutter-flies,
Bits of tissue paper
In acrobatic capers.
What magic thread tethers
These two together,
So fragile and so flimsy?
'I go higher than him, see? '
'I go higher than her, see? '
'Lord have a mercy! '
Said the tree. 'Oh, good grief,
They tickled my top leaf'.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Written in 1975, in my parents' house in South India, during
home leave from abroad. I did wonder at that pair in the 'compound' of the house.
