Two Paths And A Lake Poem by David Thomas

Two Paths And A Lake

There were days where the sun never set
our passion kept that flame burning longer
than we could even control,
the love we had was so strong we ignored barbs and venoms
to bring our arms together again

Once we walked our separate ways
I stood still for a while,
my eyes heavy and my heart swollen
I wasn't sure when I would walk again
but I knew somewhere inside that I would

We shared a message in a bottle
one boy's brave attempt to share his feelings
for the woman he loved so much
and it worked in some regard
as it drew you closer to me and gave us
a window of perfect communication (for once)

Well it's been years now
and those days are fresh in my mind's eye
and as I walk onwards I leave puddles
from the tears in my heart,
I never wanted to walk on without you
or to even know a day you weren't a message away
and as far as I can see
the peace has left my heart

I hope you well and wish you the best
I call you a fool in my mental whispers
for I think you are running from love to ease
I know now that I was not great nor even average
and I have grown so much I could give you the world,
but you are already someone else's universe
and I don't want to tread enemy waters

So be safe, be sound
take care my long lost friend
whom will never talk to me again,
in my dreams I'll hold your hands
and I'll put you where you belong
in the space the shape of your body,
right between my arms.
