Two Pictures Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Two Pictures

Two Pictures

On last rack, two pictures
Are framed as neighbours.

One is me and myself
In black, long beard.

Am absent in other that is of
My father, brothers and in law.

They went for marriage,
My sister's, teenager
Or maybe, even less,
I, of course, rejected
And resented to go:
"To me it is crime! "

Instead supported old sister:
"Since for sure, it happens,
You go and I afford expenses,
Buy her gifts, be very generous."

Years have passed, I observe
And of course, remember,
Gone are years till today…

She was not important
And is not in picture.

I was wrong in judgement,
Her husband, though older
Was and is wise, great:
"Take the key and be boss
And I am for labour…"

They made it together
Obeying our mother,
Her advice: "Be jacket,
Let husband be cover
And the wife be linen
To hold and unite them
with brain and kitchen."
