UNREQUITED GLANCES

I dared myself to love you too much,

Yet the heart has no way of knowing it’s enough…

Content my eyes with stolen glances,

Might break my heart—but I’ll take my chances…

I dared myself to reach you,

Took falls from heights no scale has known…

Yet when my body aches as it touched the ground,

Still I would choose to fall, than live earthbound…

I dared myself to unthink of you,

Then my thoughts no longer have memories to fill…

As I lie awake when all else sleeps,

Through restless nights, my thoughts are yours for keeps…

I dared myself to unlove you this time,

Yet my heart has its way of saying no…

Should I just content my eyes with stolen glances,

Or risk my heart—and take my chances?
