Unrequited Love Poem by Deona Skidmore

Unrequited Love

Rating: 4.5

(This is dedicated to my best friend, whom I love without reason or rhyme.)

For when you are scared, or don't know what to do,
Do not be afraid, I've coded my DNA right into you,
When all have spurned you or shown you doubt,
Do not fear my love, just hold your hand out

Though other lovers may have fled in the end,
Understand that this lover has first always been your friend
No matter the happenstance, and come what may
I will always be a reaching-hand away.

No matter Dear, if it has been a week, a month, a year
Know that my love for you, is nothing if not sincere.

As moments pass and seasons change,
Know that my love for you, has no range
I am writing this Dear,
Even though I know, all your other lovers will come and go

Know that in your darkest most desperate place, my heart is yours,
No one will take your place.
You have a piece of me, incorporated into your skin,
There is nothing that could mar it, not even the blackest sin

There is no need to fear, I'll do you no harm,
But it is your right to know, everything means nothing when you go.
Rest assured, my Darling, you have my love and my heart,
You have my soul, each and every part.

I'm writing this, even though I know, you will leave and I am not to follow
Know that I am sorry for all the pain I caused,
Know that I always love you, more for your flaws.

For you, I would trade eternity,
For you, I would face the dark
For you, I could stand forever
Because it is For you, that I fall apart.
