Unwanted Roses Poem by Chris Embrick

Unwanted Roses

Unwanted roses on the table
Your crumpled letter on the floor
You say you've changed this time
But I've heard it all before
There's no forgiveness in this heartache
We've tried before to make it work
Unanswered dreams they're not forgotten
When every promise turns to hurt.

Unwanted roses on the table
Shattered dreams, a broken heart
You can put back all the pieces
But never cover up the scars.

There's no more taking chances
When there's no love to return
Heartaches like this linger
Once the bridges have been burned
You think you really know me
Telling me you're sorry one more time
I'll just add your letter to the memories
I've already left behind.

Unwanted roses on the table
Shattered dreams, a broken heart
You can put back all the pieces
But never cover up the scars.
