Upon Feeling A Daughter's Pain Poem by Claudia Moline

Upon Feeling A Daughter's Pain

Upon feeling a daughter's pain and fear
When words are not enough,
What can one do but hug?
But what if she is far
And cannot fill one's arms?
And only phone is post and wall
Bringing together
And tearing apart.
To feel a daughter's pain
And want to hug
And know you can't…
"What's up? " you ask.
Whatsapp, you use,
The only open door
To try to ease her pain.
And kisses drawn
And hearts and smiles
To pull her spirits up.
But. It's not enough.
To feel a daughter's pain
And fear, uncertainty,
And want to hug
And know you can't
Is bad.
And so you write a poem
She won't read or get
For she will face her fears
And pain alone.
And messages will be
The only hugs she'll get.
