Good news is no news.
I want to write about
the party that was unmitigated fun;
the day that ended happily as it began;
with no unwelcome incidents between;
the love affair that had no pain in it;
the life that was invaded by no grief,
no disappointments and no fears;
the peace that was not interrupted
by any war or conflict;
pure sounds and visions, unmixed
pleasure, without discord,
with perfect pitch, perfect balance;
I want to write
news that turns no thoughts towards
death and suffering – but what is there to say?
Good news is always no news....
That's a good point Onelia. I like receiving comments that make me think - after all nothing is perfect (not even me, Ha! Ha!) and I never take offence or delet sincere criticism as long as they are worded kindly. It makes me change and develop a poem sometimes. If I am approached to comment on poems on here (as I often am) , and I can't say anything constructive, I usually delet the message but sometimes I make my detailed suggestions in a private message, In your case, dear Onelia, you always tell me nice things! Including this comment. I had some doubts about this poem when I jotted it down in a fit of poetic angst. Thinking about Obama, perhaps I should have included a line about 'A government that is uncorrupted, without stain' Poor Obama has already got scandals to live down (or better, to correct) . Thanks again for your usual insightful reading.
Is the positive comment a comment? :) I agree with you about the common inclination to take the good news as no news, especially regarding the world of media, but I am just watching the news on tv - president Obama en route to White House :) Sometimes a precedent becomes a news too. Your poem is really though provoking even in the context of what happens today. Good job, Janice!
