Values And Society Poem by Veeraiyah Subbulakshmi

Values And Society

Rating: 5.0

You have showed me how to lie and hide,
You have taught me how to drink and smoke,
You have telecasted what to watch and enjoy,
You have distributed all those weeds and pots,
Nowhere had they seen that these are wrong,
Except in rehab, prison and hospital,
Where the criminals and sick learn,
The value of life that they have lost,
When they were in society,
When they were in the society
the values were compromised,
Lucky ones escapee, the rest punished.

I like what Thomas A. Robinson had to say about the subject matter of your poem. Your poem is wonderful to shed light on a problem that is tearing at the threads of civil society. Thank you for your concern, and poetic contribution.

The value has different meaning. Certain values are universal, others are not and the societies do not not teach what are wrong and we are only interested in economical benefits out of various products. Though the school and religious institution teach the values, there is a definite boundary in which these are comfortable and do not want to go beyond that, so the young human are left to learn the wrong activities more than the good. When a person who is hospitalized for health problems, normally say if he had known the consequences earlier, he would not have done those irresponsible action such as smoking, drinking, unhealthy way of living and the rest. That is the reason I write this poem.
