Vandalized Friendship Poem by Leslie Xavier

Vandalized Friendship

Sometimes, yeah just at times,
moments after strike of the hammer,
the cuffed heart to the gallows,
and then the quick reviews and thoughts,
ya, the punishment don't seem to fit
the crime we're guilty of
- the vandalized friendship and more,
foul mouth in that hangover drought!

Sometimes, yeah those crazy times,
it's so hard believing love is worth a try.
Easy to spend your damned days,
in a smoky prison cell with strangers,
your heart doing time, egos making calls.
The comfy path of whiskey pegs,
one too many still game for more,
down on my knees, this morning I don't own.

Sometimes, yeah those memories come,
what means to you seem meaningless,
what's worthy looks like worthless.
Past catching up for that stab,
the loyalty bugle song still the same,
of a band of boys and fight-nights.
Guess it's time for the final stand,
ciao, I never belonged, least not any more.
