Various Roles I Played Poem by Bireswar Halder

Various Roles I Played

A human being has to play various roles in life on world stage
Someone comes for a very short role and exits early
Someone has long roles from beginning to end with various characters
Nobody knows when his roles will be over and he'll leave the stage.

A show is only for three hours with all other co-actors
In the first hour my entry is as a little son with my loving mother
Slowly I grow up starting with roles of brother and student
Best role I play and enjoy every moment having no worldly burden.

In the second hour I play as a lover and finally get married
I am to perform all duties as a real son to my old parents
And also roles of husband, loving father to my children
I perform all my roles very sincerely to satisfy everyone.

Afterwards bell rings for third and final scene as an old grandpa
Very painful roles being detached from family members, very neglected roles
With stick I may have to beg for livelihood as desired by the director
Or as a patient of a severe incurable disease leading to my death.

Oh my Director, as per your scripts, I am happy to perform all roles
I get hurt from one whom I love deeply; I am cheated when I help others
Can't I expect a little bit of love and help in exchange of mine?
I am happy that I have not to play a role of a villain, you are really great,
