Vedanta Interpretation Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

Vedanta Interpretation

The Spiritual knowledge of four Vedas
Are contained in Vedanta, which refers
To ancient texts known as The Upanishads,
Which speak about the Brahman, the Supreme.

Advaita means Non-Dualism, not two but one;
The supreme is real and only the real.
The material world is Its illusory appearances,
Adhi Sankara (700 - 750CE) put forth this theory.

Dvaita means Dualism, where the Supreme
And the soul with matter are two entities;
The later owes the former for its existence.
Madhvacharya (1238 - 1337) advocated thus.

Vishishta-dvaita means the relation
Between the Supreme and the soul and matter
Is like that between the soul and the body.
Ramanuja (1100-1200) was the proponent of it.

While Ramanuja and Madhvacharya
Held the Vishnu as the Abasalute,
Adhi Sankara grouped deities
Ganesha, Surya, Vishnu, Shiva and Devi.
