Velvet Poem by Timothy Lee Hollandsworth Jr.

Velvet

Rating: 5.0

The light of the day blinds me
and the darkness of night, she guides me.
Her song is smooth, her touch is soft.
I'm but a man, who am I to deny her?
At the bench in the park, I sit beside her.
She's always got my hand.
The morning comes and the lady has left my sight.
Her presence is made apparent when the sun becomes bland.
Eclipse, totally blocking the sun.

The light of the day is gone
and the darkness of night is where I belong.
A woman's silhouette smokes a cigarette
the smoke rises to my head.
She puts on her dress, and she moves with finesse,
like a snake. I feel the dress, it's velvet.
Her slippery tongue takes out the light.
Eclipse, totally blocking the sun.

The light of the day is returning
and the darkness of night, she is burning.
The lady and I, we walk on past the grove
down to the water, we jump into the cove.
High in the sky, the sun is crowning
The lady drags me down, we are drowning!
She said, 'you've got fear, I can smell it! '
I asked her her name, she said it is Velvet.

Velvet, I wake up next to you.
Velvet, the darkness is true.
The sun is a disguise, to distract from
Velvet the wise. Velvet, the Queen of the Night.
