Vrystaat! (Lyric) Poem by Margaret Kollmer

Vrystaat! (Lyric)

In Mexico they're rude and call us names
They will not let us join Olympic games
They think they've got us by the neck
but do we worry wot the heck
Who wants TV? When we'll all be there to see.

The Lions and the Tigers meet again
We hope the rain is going to stay in Spain
Although they went to different schools
they play the game to the self-same rules
That's what we think though the Ref. may disagree.

In U.S.A. they're singing Master Jack
Who never will, no never will look back.
It's a very strange world we all agree
When a feller gets his peepers from a chimpanzee
Now all we need
Is our biltong to be free.

In Paris students have their own beliefs
But these are causin' everyone the griefs.
In Stellenbosch there's no such mess
though now they're called A.S.V.S.
What does it mean? Tings ain't wot they used to be.

The world may try to tear us all apart
And do its best to make us all lose heart.
But we don't have any need to fear
Cos we're okay as long as Barnard's near
But if they behave - we'll loan him on H.P.

CHORUS:

Oh V-R-Y-S-T-A-A-T
Repeat…then
Wherever you go you’ll hear that word
The sweetest sounding word you’ve ever heard
Oh V-R-Y-S-T-A-A-T
(Vee R Y….ess tee double A Tee)
